It is nice to see Mr B return to form. Book 2 was not his greatest effort in the Vega Jane series, this made up for it.Unfortunately, before I knew it the book had ended and...sigh...we have to wait for the next installment.
I KNOW she will triumph but the how escapes me. That is Mr B's magic, the 'how' of this triumph.

Baldacci has once again captured the spirited life of Vega Jane as she and her friends escape the mighty Quag, and find their history, inspiration and their journey to save their kind, and themselves.
When I started this series, and this particular volume, I thought it was a trilogy. It wasn't until the end of another adventurous tale featuring Vega Jane and her friends that I realized this wasn't the end. As always, I was captured by the wonderful prose of Mr. Baldacci. His locations and creatures in this series are amazingly detailed, easily appearing in my mind's eye. Can't wait for the next volume.
The story continues, in a different place/world where Vega Jane must learn to perfect her magic to overcome an increasingly more dangerous surroundings. With her two friends she must become the leader her Qwest requires. With a surprising ending that leaves you hungry for more, Baldacci continues his epic series of novels.
After leaving home and surviving the crossing of the Quag, a different world is found. She learns about the enemy her ancestors had battled but lost to. She learned of many horrors. She met people living under spells with their minds reprogrammed. There were many atrocities. She also learned about her ancestors. But the biggest truth is that she would lead in a battle for survival against the Mattadons a fierce, strong and cruel group of sir errors.
You never go wrong with Baldacci. The first two volumes in this series were great and a fun read. The characters are entertaining and engaging. The story develops at pace that allows you to savor and enjoy.
In THE WIDTH OF THE WORLD, he raises the bar and builds the excitement in such a way that #4 comes quickly.

The settings, characters and language was very imaginative. I love the characters and can hardly believe a writer is so successful in such diverse genres.
